Lessons from Facebook

I almost did my usual thing: rushing through FB posts to check in with people, to learn something new, to rail against something I disagree with, cheer with the like-minded. But I do rush. I don’t feel I have time to spend sharing with others that I’m sitting on my patio drinking coffee. That’s why I think most of us rush. I almost rushed through an email I received with this YouTube presentation by LDS President Nelson. I arrogantly didn’t want to take the time to listen, it’s just under 12 minutes, way too long for me. I’m not a member of this church, yet I have many friends and family who are. What caught me was the subject line about gratitude, which I try hard on a daily basis to think about. So I listened. You know, it really doesn’t matter what your faith is or isn’t. I encourage you to take the time, don’t rush like I’m always inclined to do, listen to this wisdom. It is directly about the strife and tribalism we are going through today. If we all did what he asks, I wonder if we could remember to do what we were taught in Kindergarten: look both ways, be kind, and hold hands. It’s time.
